What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyalúronic acid (AH) is a natural polymer found in all living organisms. one)
The human dermis has a high percentage of AH, which moisturizes the skin due to its high water binding properties. AH is a predominant part of the viscoelastic intracellular matrix, which provides and maintains adequate tissue volume, and acts as a buffer to help protect the skin. one)
The natural product, if injected into the skin, would be lost quickly. To produce a longer lasting AH, it must be made more robust and stable by crosslinking. The crosslinked gels are combined with the naturally occurring HA to provide volume and support for 4 to 12 months. 2) -3)
